Training for the Camino
Prepare for the Camino by walking a lot before arriving in Spain. Your enjoyment of the week will depend on getting in walking shape. Below is a chart to help guide you in your preparation.
We cannot stress this enough. Get ready for 12-15 mile days of walking over rolling hills. Blisters are the primary problem among pilgrims, so wear good shoes and break them in before arriving in Spain.
Did we mention that you should walk a great deal before stepping out onto the Camino?
Packing
What should I bring? What should I leave behind? Remember, you’re on a pilgrimage, less is more. Plus, if you forget something you can find it in Spain. It’s a civilized country. Below is a suggested packing guide.
We will have our luggage transferred for us daily (a company moves our bags for us so that we don’t have to carry them), so you can refer to the left-hand column. However, consider packing from the right-hand column. On the Camino, you can wear the same clothes day after day. Don’t worry about being alone in this practice as this is how your guides roll.
Also, ignore the section on hostels at the bottom of the list. None of that for us, as we stay in inns and B&Bs along the way.
