EVANGELISM AS A WAY OF LIFE

Sharing the gospel with other students on campus  should be a part of your daily life. It is important to know how to lead others into a relationship with Jesus. There are many students who would begin a relationship with God today if someone simply told them how.

There are many ways to share the gospel as a natural part of life;  fun ways that are comfortable for both you and the other students you are talking to.

Here are a few tools you’ll find helpful:

  • Download these apps:
GodTools – It helps  you learn to share the gospel with another student using your phone.
EveryStudent – It addresses questions many students have about life and God, and you can share articles and videos right from within the app.
The Jesus Film App– Full length versions as well as clips from the Jesus Film along with other short films.
  • Spend some time on the website EveryStudent.com.
You can share articles and videos from this site with your friends. Everything on the site is easy to understand and is written with non-believers in mind. More than 1,000 people a day tell us they’ve asked Jesus into their lives while on this site.

You will feel freer and more comfortable starting conversations with friends knowing you don’t need to have all the answers and can refer them to a place to explore issues and faith more.
You’ll find more in-depth help in sharing Jesus with others in the
    Resources section.

EVANGELISM THROUGH SPECIAL EVENTS

In addition to sharing Jesus with your friends as a part of your daily life, you will also want to include some evangelistic events throughout the semester. Take into account class schedules when you are planning these activities to make sure students are available to participate.

Here are some suggestions of what you can do in the beginning, middle, and end of the semester.

Beginning of the semester-

This is the most important time of the year because students are not yet busy with schoolwork, and new students are looking for friends. Share Christ with as many students as possible during the first six weeks of the semester:

  • Create survival kits with information about the campus and about Cru. Focus especially on giving these to first year students, and build relationships as you do.
  • Give “Free Hugs” during the registration days.
  • Use surveys to gather contacts. Hand out free ice cream. Or pizza. Have a contest. The options are endless.
  • Give out EveryStudent.com fliers and sharing cards.

Throughout the semester –

  • Continue sharing the gospel way-of-life, as God brings opportunities. Be bold and prayerful.
  • Faith Week: Everyone in the movement makes special effort to share the Gospel with as many of their friends as possible during “Faith Week.” It can be any week of the year, and you and your team might want to set some personal goals. Maybe you can each try to share with 5 or 10 of your friends. It is also very important to come together and celebrate what God does at the end of the week.

End of the semester –

The end of the semester brings a lot of stress and busy-ness as students face project deadlines and exams. However, it also brings some great opportunities. Feeling overwhelmed and even fearful can help a non-Christian friend realize their need for God. The key is to be sensitive and available to the opportunities God brings along. Sometimes offering to pray for a friend’s exams can be just what they need and open a door for spiritual conversations.
