EVANGELISM AS A WAY OF LIFE

Sharing the gospel with students on campus can be part of your daily life. It is important to know how to lead others into a relationship with Jesus. There are many students who would begin a relationship with God today if someone simply told them how.

We have simple ideas for how you can do this. Fun ways that are comfortable for both you and the students you are talking to.

There are many ways to share the gospel as a natural part of life. Here are a few tools you’ll find helpful:

  • Download these two apps:
GodTools – It lets you share the gospel with another student, showing them your phone.
EveryStudent – It addresses questions many students have about life and God.

  • Spend some time on the website EveryStudent.com.
You can encourage non-believing students to see articles and videos on this site. Everything is worded to them and for them. More than 1,000 people a day tell us they’ve asked Jesus into their lives while on this site. Get to know this site.
You will feel freer, more comfortable starting conversations with students knowing you won’t feel stuck being asked a question you can’t answer.

You’ll find more in-depth help in sharing Jesus with others in the Resources section.

EVANGELISM THROUGH SPECIAL EVENTS

In addition to sharing Jesus with students on a regular basis in your daily life, you will also want to include some evangelistic events throughout the semester. Make sure to take into account the schedule of classes when you are planning evangelistic activities to make sure students are available to participate.

Here are some suggestions of what to do in the beginning, middle, and end of the semester.

Beginning of the semester – This is the most important time of the semester because students are not yet busy with papers and tests. Look for ways to share Christ with as many students as possible during the first six weeks of the semester:

  • Create survival kits with information about the campus and about Cru. Focus especially on giving these to Freshman.
  • Give “Free Hugs” during the registration days.
  • Use some surveys.
  • Hand out free ice cream. Or pizza. Have a contest. The options are endless.
  • Give out EveryStudent.com fliers and business cards.

Throughout the semester –

  • Continue sharing the gospel way-of-life, as God brings opportunities. Be bold and prayerful.

  • Faith Week: All students of the movement make efforts to share the Gospel with as many students as possible that week. Some movements have found it helpful to set evangelism goals for the week. It is also very important to celebrate what God did at the end of the week.

End of the semester –

The end of the semester brings a lot of stress and busy-ness. It also brings opportunity. The reality of deadlines and grades also creates a sense of finitude and weakness that can help a non-Christian realize the need for God. The key is to be sensitive and available to the opportunities God will bring.
