In the discipleship process, small groups help to develop the character of Christ in our lives and aligns us to our mission as a movement. It also encourages steps of faith in evangelism; provides fellowship; builds leaders, and so on.

A small group meeting is not just about Bible study. It is in Small Groups that strong bonds of friendship grow and we feel more comfortable sharing deeper things in our lives.

Some important things to consider when leading a Small Group:

  • Start and end on time. Meet for 60 – 90 minutes.
  • Keep the meeting simple so that those who come begin to feel confident that they too could lead a small group
  • Create an environment of intimacy and fun.
  • Select short topics or series to study so the group has a sense of accomplishment.

DISCIPLESHIP MATERIALS

  1. ”START” – START is a six-part small group program specifically designed to help new members build a strong foundation and understand the vision and direction of the movement. In Brazil, many movements began to see significant growth after they adopted START as the first study material for everyone new to the movement. Download it here.
  2. FirstStepsWithGod (App) – Specially designed to meet the needs of a new believer. Developed in Australia, this app has been translated into multiple languages. It is very simple to use and is available on or offline.
  3. StartingwithGod.com – Ask your group members to sign up for The Spiritual Starter Kit. They will receive the studies via email, and then as a group you can interact about what you are learning when you meet in person.

Other discipleship materials are available in the resource section. You can also lead a virtual small group via any online meeting application. While face-to-face is preferred, there are situations in which meeting online maybe your best option.
